I'm trying to get an agent + GitLab (self-hosted) runners to fully configure my new Fairphone 6+. It successfully installed /e/OS (I just had to click a few buttons). The agent connects to the phone via ADB over WiFi for troubleshooting (I had to help with the pairing). The GitLab runners apply/deploy changes with Ansible.
Then once it was installed, I've tasked it with installing/configuring apps/changing the theme, tweaking settings, etc. I message my agent on my desktop and ask it to change/troubleshoot/install something, and then my phone unlocks/starts doing things. I have two potential use-cases in mind for this.
The first option is that I leave it at home connected to WiFi with some apps on it that I would rather not interact with directly and just have agents interact with them instead (e.g. the Target app so it can place orders and look at my shopping list and order things for me, etc). This might also be useful to be able to bridge SMS/calls to something else (e.g. a Matrix server).
The second option to have it become my daily phone and just use the current method to install/configure things. I'm leaning towards this option because I could still potentially have agents interact with certain apps (e.g. Target). And this also opens up the possibility for me to use apps that I have the agent create from scratch, build with GitLab runners, etc.
So I'm not entirely sure where I'll go with this, but it seems like there's a lot of opportunities to improve the experience of using a smart phone overall.
